Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

One of four brothers (William, Leslie, Leonard) who served in WWII, Private Joseph Henry Neville (Service Nos:221967/Q270895) initially served in the Militia (27 March 1933 - 26 April 1935) as a Gunner attached to 11 Field Brigade. Private Neville was in Camboon via Emerald on 23 July 1944 when he enlisted in the ACMF, and was attached to Reinforcements Reception Depot (RRD) at Discharge on 14 March 1944.

Fourth of nine children, Joe was born in Brisbane QLD in 1912 to William (Harry) Henry Neville (b1881 at Redbank Plains Via Ipswich, QLD) and Sarah Ann Ibbotsen (b1887 in Goodna, QLD). Harry and Sarah married in 1906 in Brisbane, and lived in Ipswich, Jackson via Miles and Brisbane, where they raised their family and Harry was a Saddler.

Joe started work as a Station Hand, and in the  1930s was a Baker at the Cannon Hill Bakery (aka as Neville's Bakery) where he worked with his brothers. In 1940 in Adelong, New South Wales he married Marjorie (Marge) Thelma Walsh (b1915 in Gundagai, New South Wales). Joe and Marge settled in Brisbane, where Joe worked as a Baker, and in 1942 was a Ganger in Camboon via Emerald when he enlisted in the Army. Following his Discharge, Joe and Marge settled in Sydney, where they raised their family and Joe worked as a Carter/Truck Driver until Marge's death in 1968. The following year Joe returned to Brisbane, where he worked as a Truck Driver and Labourer until retirement. Joe died in 1984.
