One of four brothers (William, Joseph, Leonard) who served in WWII, Private Leslie Neville (Service Nos:Q28587/QX36048) initially enlisted in the ACMF on 28 August 1940, and was attached to 61 Infantry Battalion on 14 July 1942 when he transferred to the AIF. Private Neville was attached to 61 Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 27 June 1943.
Les was born in Brisbane, QLD in 1916, sixth of nine children of William (Harry) Henry Neville (b1881 at Redbank Plains via Ipswich, QLD) and Sarah Ann Ibbotson (b1887 in Goodna, QLD). Harry and Sarah married in 1906 in Brisbane, and lived in Ipswich, Jackson via Miles and Brisbane, where they raised their family and Harry was a Saddler.
Les was a Labourer and Meat Worker in Brisbane before enlisting in the Army in 1940. Following his Discharge from the Army, Les was in Brisbane in 1947 when he married Joyce Georgina Dawn Turner (b1926 in Ipswich, QLD). Les and Joyce settled in Brisbane, where they raised their family and Les worked as a Labourer until retirement. Les died in 1997 and Joyce in 2006.
