LIEUTENANT A. J. BYRNE - from the 'Broken Hill Barrier Miner' 16 May 1915.

"Lieutenant Albert John Byrne, the first of the Broken Hill men reported killed, was an employee on the mines. He left Broken Hill as a non-com., having done good work in 82B Area in instructional work. He was about 24 years of age. He lived at Railway Town. Both his father and mother are dead. Lieutenant Byrne was one of the first six men examined by Surgeon-captain Hains for service in Broken Hill."

He lived with his Aunt - Emily Ruth Rebecca Tapsell (his mother's sister) and
4 siblings at Gaffrey Street, Railway Town, Broken Hill, New South Wales, prior to enlisting.
