Monsignor T. J. King Dies, Aged 74
The Right Rev. Mon-signor Thomas Joseph King, O.B.E., one of Australia's best known Roman Catholic priests, died at Lewisham Private Hospital on Tuesday night.
Monsignor King, aged 74, had been parish priest of St. Michael's, Stanmore, for 32 years.
Educated at St. Aloysius' College, North Sydney, he was ordained in 1905. He was appointed a chaplain to the Forces in 1914, serving overseas with the First A.I.F.
In 1916 he was appointed senior Australian Catholic Chaplain and was three times mentioned in dispatches. He was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 1917.
Monsignor King was appointed Domestic Prelate in 1917, received the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Decoration in 1934, and had the dignity of Prothonotary Apostolic conferred in 1937.
Monsignor King is survived by his sister, Sister Mary Acquin, of Ryde.
After a Requiem Mass at St. Michael's, Stanmore, at 10 a.m. today, the burial will take place at Rookwood Cemetery.
