Nick named "Allie," James Allison Guest (1889-1963) was born on the 8th January 1889.
Until he enlisted as a volunteer in the regular army in February 1916, he worked with his father as a timber clerk.
On the 29th May 1917 he joined the 14th Battalion with the substantive rank Sgt.
Prior he was an Acting Staff Sgt, Major Instructional Staff.
On the 5th April 1917, aged 28 year old, he arrived at the battlefield in France, serving as an ambulatory soldier. He remained there, on the battlefield in France, until being marched out on the 15th July 1918.
Arriving home on the 23rd September 1942, he survived 15 months exposure to the constant and relentless fire of the battlefield in France. He further experienced close up and personal contact with the injured hel;ping them to be stretchered back to the make shift hosiptal scattered across the battlefield.
Allie Guest is the eldest son of John Henry Guest (1862-1922), and Annie Caroline Guest (1868-1922) (nee Allison). His mother being a member of the Allison Funeral family dynasty of Australia and Camberwell England.
Allie married Lily Ernsteine Brierty on the 27th November 1920. They had two children. Eldest of their two children was namesake Lily, who died as a child on the 5th February 1927 and youngest was brother Jim (James Ernest Guest, 1925-1990).
