GEORGE SAMUEL JAMES PAYNE

George (9 December 1921 • East St, Rockhampton, QLD - 1992 • Southport, QLD)
was a Meat Worker in Rockhampton, and joined the Citizen Military Forces in 1942. George enlisted in the Australian Army on 24 October 1944 and served with 42 Australian Infantry Battalion as a Private (Service No: QX62583 (Q114032).
George worked in Rockhampton QLD as a Meat Worker on his return from the war, and moved to Brisbane where he married Esther Bridget Molloy and worked as a Postman in Brisbane and Southport QLD

George was the youngest of four children of John George Payne (born 1888 in London, England) and Frances Maria Haldane (born 1888 in Brisbane, QLD). John was a Labourer in Rockhampton, QLD in 1916 when he married Frances and they raised their family in Rockhampton.

George was a Meatworker in Rockhampton QLD when he enlisted in the Army in October 1944, and had served with the ACMF (Q114032) from 1942 to 1944. He was a Private (QX62583) attached to 42nd Infantry Battalion when he was Discharged in July 1946.

George returned to Rockhampton where he was a Meatworker, and in 1950 he married Esther Bridget Hardie (nee Molloy, born 1912 in Ipswich, QLD). George and Esther settled in Brisbane where George worked as a Postman until moving to Labrador at Southport, QLD in the mid 1960s. George continued working as a Postman until retirement. He enjoyed putting his 'tinnie' into the waters at Labrador and fishing. Esther died in 1979 and George in 1992.
