Private Gordon Henry Payne (Service Nos:Q45700/QX34409) initially enlisted in the ACMF on 9 April 1941, and was attached to 7 Brigade Coy AASC on 12 August 1942 when he enlisted in the AIF. Private Payne served with 10 Australian Supply Personnel Coy AASC, and was attached to 26 Coy AASC at Discharge on 14 March 1945.

Gordon was born in Brisbane QLD in 1921, second of three children of William John Payne (b1899 in Brisbane, QLD) and Ethel Maude Sawden (b1898 in Brisbane, QLD). William and Ethel married in 1919 in Brisbane, where they settled and raised their family and William worked as a Labourer.

Gordon was an Electrical Assistant in Brisbane in 1941 when he enlisted in the Army, and in 1942 in Brisbane married Audrey Annie May Norman (b1921 in Brisbane, QLD). Following Discharge from the Army, Gordon and Audrey settled in Brisbane, where they raised their family and Gordon worked as a Truck Driver and Foreman, and from the early 1970s as a Bus Driver. Gordon died in 1998 and Audrey in 2010.
