The place of birth may have been incorrectly stated by CWGC-it is more likely to be Glenboig, North Lanarkshire, Scotland.
A pastry baker by trade, and a pipe band music teacher, he was 21 and the son of David and the late Maggie Connor MacLeod/McLeod. While in training camp, he started up a pipe band for the 15th Battalion.
He was wounded in action at Gallipoli.
His name is located at panel 76 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial.
CWGC records the spelling of his surname as MacLeod-not McLeod.
Their Grave Registration Report Form shows the surname spelt as McLeod.
The Death Registration shows the surname as McLeod.

Died on this date - 16th June......Private John Connor MacLeod was born at Glenboig, New Monkland parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland in 1894 as "John Connor".
According to information supplied by David MacLeod, Stepfather of John Connor MacLeod, John came to Australia when he was 16 ½ years old with his family. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 12th October, 1914 as a 21 year old Baker from Toowoomba, Queensland.
Private John MacLeod proceeded to join the M.E.F. (Mediterranean Expeditionary Force) on Gallipoli Peninsula on 12th April, 1915 with 15th Battalion. Private MacLeod was wounded in action at Gallipoli with a gunshot wound to the forehead. He was admitted to 2nd Western General Hospital, Manchester, Lancashire, England on 20th May, 1915.
Private John Connor MacLeod died on 16th June, 1915 at 2nd Western General Hospital, Manchester, Lancashire, England from Enteric Fever. He was buried in Southern Cemetery, Manchester, Lancashire, England where 15 other WW1 Australian Soldiers & 1 VAD Nurse are buried.
