Cyril was the fourth of eight children of Robert Morrison Phister (born 1863 in Ipswich, QLD) and Janet King (born 1871 in Leyburn, QLD). Robert( a Labourer) and Janet married in 1890 in Ipswich, QLD and settled at Millmerran on the Darling Downs to raise their family.

Cyril worked as a Labourer and Shearer in the Darling Downs Region, and was an amateur Boxer. He enlisted in the Army in October 1939 (following some brushes with the Law) and was a Private (Service No:QX1038) attached to 2/9 Infantry Battalion when he was Discharged in February 1940. Five of Cyril's brothers served in WWII.

Cyril, aka Robinson, died in Sydney, NSW in 1971.
