Oak Valley is close to Fern Brook in the Yeppoon district and is owned by Arthur and Alfred Powell who are the sons of George Powell of Fern Brook. It consists of 40 acres, and has been owned by the brothers for three years. It was all forest country, carrying a lot of red oak; it is said that this is good fruit-growing land. The brothers have planted 900 citrus 15 feet apart. They are Emperor, Canton, Scarlet, Imperil, Glendale Beauty and Glen Forest Beauty.
They have bananas, but they have been picking passion-fruit and paw-paw are also growing. The fruit fly played mischief with the passion fruit and water was obtained at 45 ft. Within a few short years Oak Vale will become a valuable property. Their son Arthur Powell was known as a kind man in the district leaving any fruit that was surplus or close to spoiling in boxes at the front of his shop for the poor.
