Lieutenant Lewis Peter Pratten (Service No:QX42060) initially served in the Militia (Sergeant; Service No:77444) with 2/14th Light Horse Regiment from 16 July 1940. Sergeant Pratten then enlisted in the ACMF (Sergeant; Service No:Q3633) with 2/14th Light Horse Regiment - Part Time Duty. On 2 August 1942, 'in the field' - he enlisted in the AIF as a Sergeant attached to 2nd Cavalry Regiment and 2 Recce Battalion. Sergeant Pratten was described as 'Posesses abilty and general knowledge above the average .... imaginative and reliable and he posesses the necessary qualities to make a very good leader' (NAA). In July 1943 he was promoted to Lieutenant, attached to 7th Infantry Training Battalion, and served with 7 Infantry Battalion in New Guinea/Bougainville from 29 April 1944 to 19 May 1945 (including Fauro and Treasury Islands, Lae and Torokina). Lieutenant Pratten was attached to 7 Infantry Battion when his appoinment was terminated on 29 May 1946.

Born in Kilcoy, QLD in 1922, Lewis was sixth of seven children of Ernest Theodore Pratten (b1875 in Samford, QLD) and Eliza Fredriksen (b1886 at Danwood Vale via Kilcoy, QLD). Ernest (a Grazier/Dairy Farmer) and Eliza married in 1909 in Kilcoy, where they settled and raised their family and Ernest was a Grazier/Dairy Farmer and, in the 1920s when Hancok & Gore Mill opened, he hauled timber from his property to the sawmill by bullock team.

Lewis worked in Kilcoy as a Farm Hand before enlisting in the Army. In 1946 in Kilcoy, Lewis married Jacqueline (Jackie) Raleigh (b1926 in Kilcoy, QLD). Lewis and Jackie settled in Kilcoy, where they raised their family and Lewis was a Dairy Farmer at Sheep Station Creek via Kilcoy. In the late 1960s, Lewis and Jackie moved to Toorbul via Caboolture, where Lewis was a Forestry Worker until retirement. Lewis died in 1993 and Jackie in 2009.
