Initially, Frank Wood was a part of the 10th Battalion, until he was transferred to the 50th Battalion. He was wounded in action in France in August of 1916 during the Battle of Moquet Farm. After being wounded in action, he was admitted to Lord Derby War Hospital a few days later to recover. After his recovery, Frank Wood rejoined the battalion, where he later was wounded in action a second time.
After his battle in World War 1, Frank returned to Australia on the 2nd of April 1919. Sadly, Frank Wood then passed away 4 years after his return to Australia.
