Corporal Norman William David Raby (Service No:Q37003) enlisted in the ACMF on 22 January 1940 as a Private attached to 42 Infantry Battalion AMF. Private Raby served in New Guinea from 9 January 1943 to 4 April 1943. On 22 September 1944 he was promoted to Lance Corporal and then to Corporal in March 1945. Corporal Raby was attached to 42 Infantry Battalion AMF at Discharge on 19 November 1945.
Born in 1918 in Rockhampton QLD, Norman was the eldest of three children (sons) of William Norman Raby (b1892 in Bundaberg, QLD) and Ella Noon Brock (b1899 in Muttaburra, QLD). William (a Wool Scourer) and Ella married in 1918 in Rockhampton, QLD where they settled and William worked as a Motor and Lorry Driver. The family moved to Brisbane in the 1940s, where William worked as a Roller Caster.
After completing High School in Rockhampton, Norman worked as a Shop Assistant and in 1942 in Brisbne, QLD he married Lillian Reece Kendall (b1920 in Rockhampton, QLD). Following his Discharge from the Army, Norman and Lillian settled in Brisbane where Norman worked as a Shop Assistant and Salesman until his death in 1965. Lillian died in 2002.
