James Leonards Story

James had been with the Royal Australian Artillery since cadets. He received his first Army Number, VE401256, when he signed up on 1 April 1937. When he enlisted for War Service on the 8th March 1940 he was given the S/N Q65034 and served with the 1st Remount Squadron RAA. He signed up for the permanent Army on 15th April 1943 and was assigned S/N QX55069. Posted to Wellcamp (Toowoomba) Dad rode second and lead horse pulling the gun and limber. He attained the rank of Sergeant during his service and was discharged on 20th October 1945 with the rank of Corporal. To his regret he was never posted overseas and to that end would never apply for his service medals. They were obtained by the family after his passing in 1989.
