Arthur was the 6th of 9 children of Ernest Richards and Margaret Ann Ridsdale. Two of his sisters - Hazel and Constance - served in the RAAF in WWII. Arthur married Margaret McKay Osborne Stevenson Allan Gibb (1912 - 1977) and was a Labourer in Booval, Ipswich, QLD prior to his Enlistment as a Sapper (Service No: Q269687) with the AMF
Following the War, Arthur worked as a Greenkeeper in Booval, Ipswich, QLD until his death in 1979
