Warrant Officer I Huon Handsworth Roche (Service No:QX46035) initially served in the ACMF (Private: Service No:Q90793) from 6 June 1941 to 13 July 1942. He was a Corporal 'in the field' at Adelaide River, NT when he Discharged to enlist in the AIF and was promoted through the ranks to WOI. WOI Roche served in the Northern Territory (19 February 1942 to 7 March 1945) with Command Pay Office NTF and was attached to District Accounts Office at Discharge on 16 July 1946.

Huon was born in Hobart, Tasmania in 1920, eldest of five children of Arthur James Roche (b1884 in London, England - although he gave Paris, France as his birthplace in his Attestation Papers in 1916) and Grace Lillian Cartright (b1894 in Maryborough, QLD). Arthur was a Printer in London when he immigrated in 1905, arriving in Sydney, NSW on board the Ormiston. By 1913 Arthur was an Insurance Agent in Brisbane, QLD, and by 1915 was a Minister of Religion in Goondiwindi and Warwick. Arthur enlisted in the AIF (Service No:9743) and served at 11th Depot Battalion from 12 June 1916 to 7 January 1917 when he was Discharged as medically unfit. In 1918 Arthur was a Minister of Religion and Grace was a Shop Assistant when they married in Maryborough QLD. In 1919 Arthur and Grace moved to Tasmania where Arthur worked as a Salesman before settling in Sydney NSW in the mid 1920s, where Arthur was Manager of Federal Business Insurance Coy. In the mid 1930s Arthur and Grace moved to Southport, QLD where Arthur was an Insurance Inspector and in 1940 the family settled in Brisbane where Arthur was an Organiser.

Huon worked as Organising Secretary in Brisbane, QLD before enlisting in the Army and in 1949 was an Agent in Brisbane when he married Eleanor Murielle Kelly (b1922 in Adelaide, South Australia) - Murielle had been a Tailoress in Adelaide before serving in the Army (Corporal; Service Nos:Sfx26216/S538349). Hun and Eileen lived in Capalaba, QLD where Huon was a Timber Hauler before joining the Public Service in the early 1960s and moving to Bamaga, Thursday Island. They returned to the mainland in 1972 and settled in Redcliffe where Huon worked as a Salesman until his death in 1977. Eileen died in 2000.
