Youngest of the two brothers (Hector) who served in WWII. Private Hugh Callan Ross (Service No:QX33257) enlisted in the AIF on 18 August 1942 and was posted to General Details Depot (GDD) - classified Acting Engine Hand, re graded Winchman. Private Ross served in New Guinea (11 April 1943 - 19 March 1944) and Bougainville (25 September 1944 - 15 February 1946) with 2/4 Docks Operating Coy, and was attached to 6 Port Operating Coy at Discharge on 25 February 1946.

Born in Sarina QLD in 1922, Bluey was youngest of three children of William Lyle Ross (b1884 in Lanarkshire, Scotland) and Henrietta Lindsay Callan (b1885 in Lanarkshire, Scotland). William (an Iron Worker) and Henrietta (a Domestic Servant) married in Lanarkshire in 1908, and immigrated in 1913, arriving in Brisbane QLD with their daughter on board the Perthshire. William and Henrietta settled in Sarina, where they raised their family and William was a Fireman (Boiler).

Bluey was a Stoker/Engine Driver in Sarina in 1941 when he married Joan Steindl (b1920 in Bundaberg, QLD). Following his Discharge from the Army, Bluey and Joan lived in Sarina and at Armstron Beach via Mackey, where they raised their family and Bluey was an Engine Driver. Joan died in 1973 and Bluey in 1991.
