He used 1905 as his date of birth to enlist in AIF in 1940 in WW2.

When enlisting in the AIF, James was 40 and consided too old for infantry service, so gave his year of birth as 1905 (not 1902). It is likely that he was discovered as he was discharged more than a year before the end of WW2.
