Eldest of the three brothers who served in WWII (Walter and Jack), Private Arthur Frederick Springall (Service No:Q209440) served in the ACMF with 12 Battalion VDC from 2 June 1942 to 21 October 1945.
Arthur was born in Ipswich QLD in 1906, eldest of five children of Charles (Charlie) Walter Springall (b1870 in Gympie, QLD) and his second wife Lillian (Lily) Brown (b1880 in Fernvale, QLD). Charlie (a Widower with two sons) and Lily married in 1905 in Ipswich, where they settled and raised their family - Charlie worked for the Railways as a Fitter/Machinist. Charlie and Lily later lived in Brisbane and Gympie - Charlie was an Engine Fitter.
Arthur worked in Brisbane (Birkdale) as a Labourer and Wood Cutter before moving to Amamoor via Gympie in the late 1930s. Arthur worked in the Gympie region (Amamoor and Kandanga) as a Labourer and Sleeper Cutter before enlisting in the ACMF in 1942, and in 1945 in Gympie married Annie Louise O'Farrell (b1918 in Gympie, QLD). Arthur and Annie settled in Kandanga via Gympie, where they raised their family and Arthur worked as a Labourer until his death in 1959. Annie died in 2013.
