Allan was the second of five children of Edwin Steele (born 1897 in Ipswich, QLD) and Gertrude Marcella Boon (born 1895 in Murwillumbah, NSW). Edwin was a Coal Miner in 1919 when he married Gertrude in Booval, Ipswich, QLD. Edwin and Gertrude raised their family in Booval, Ipswich, QLD where Edwin worked as a Coal Miner until he and Gertrude retired to Caloundra, QLD in 1954.

Allan was a Coal Miner in Booval, Ipswich, QLD when he enlisted in the Volunteer Defence Corps in April 1942. He served as a Private (Service No:Q227694) with 9 Battalion until his Discharge in April 1944.

Allan married Gloria Jean Kean (born 1923 in Ipswich, QLD) in 1950 - Allan was working as a Coal Miner and Gloria as a Textile Worker. They lived in Goodna and Brisbane, QLD where Allan was a Railway Porter before relocating to Sandgate, QLD by 1972. Allan worked as an Airline Employee. He died in 2007.
