Grev was the third of eight children of Gustav Julius August Stern (b1884 in Nundah, QLD) and Mabel Violet Smith (b1893 in Esk, QLD). Gustav (a Farmer in Caboolture, QLD) and Mabel married in 1917 and lived in Caboolture until the 1920s when they moved to Mt Mee in Woodford, Wide Bay QLD. Gustav and Mabel lived in Duaringa QLD where Gustav was a Farmer before moving to Eumundi, Nambour, QLD where Gustav worked as a Timber Cutter.
Grev was a Labourer in Eumundi QLD when he enlisted in the Australian Army in 1941. He served with 7 Pioneer Coy (Private; Service No:QX26403) and was in New Guinea with 6 and 2/4 Docks Op Coy RAE. Grev was attached to 2/4 Docks Op Coy RAE when he was Discharged in July 1944.
Returning to QLD, Grev was working at Verrierdale in Eumundi as a Timber Cutter in 1949 when he married Audrey Merle Wickerson (b1927 in Nambour, QLD) - Audrey was working as a Shop Assistant in Nambour. By 1958 Grev and Audrey had settled in Toowoomba QLD where Grev worked as a Timber Cutter. Audrey died in 1977 and Grev in 2011.
