Lance Bombardier Raymond Leslie Stevenson (Service No:QX19598) enlisted in the AIF on 6 June 1941, and was a Private attached to 1 Anti Tank Regiment on 1 November 1941 when he embarked with his Unit from Sydney for the Middle East. On 27 April 1943 Lance Bombadier Stevenson was attached to 2/4 Light Anti Aircraft Regiment RAA when he returned from the Middle East to Sydney. Lance Bombadier Stevenson ( graded Butcher, re graded Storeman) served with 2/4 Light Anti Aircraft Regiment RAA at Milne Bay and Finschafen (11 September 1943 - 10 June 1945), and was attached to 2/4 LAAR RAA at Discharge on 13 September 1945.
Born in Newcastle, New South Wales in 1917, Ray was eldest of three children of William Leslie Stevenson (b1890 in Melbourne, Victoria) and his second wife Elsie May Beeston (b1897 in Maryborough, QLD). William and Elsie lived in Brisbane, where they raised their family and William was a Blacksmith.
Ray was working in Brisbane as a Packer in 1938 when he married his first wife Hilda Thys (b1920 in Brisbane, QLD). Ray and Hilda divorced, and both remarried - Ray in 1949 to Doreen Marjorie Pierce (b1922 in Brisbane, QLD) - Doreen was a Packer in Brisbane. Ray was a Storeman in Brisbane in 1941 when he enlisted in the Army, and following his Discharge, settled in Brisbane where he worked as a Storeman Packer, and in 1963/1965 as a Storeman - Warehouse for Burns Philp & Coy). Ray died in 1988 and Doreen in 2011.
