Ernest Lionel Bainger
Ernest Lionel Bainger was born on the 4th of December 1894 in Rosebury (Collinswood), South Australia. To parents William Andrews Bainger and Ester Gully. He attended the Parkside Methodist School, and Adelaide High School and is listed on their WW1 Honour Board.
Ern was living at 181 Wattle Street, Malvern, Adelaide in 1914 and working as a clerk. He enlisted in the AIF on the 16th of September 1914 at 20 years of age. As a private (Service no. 1109) in the 4th Field Ambulance he embarked from Melbourne on HMAT Berrima A35 on the 22nd of December 1914. He saw service at Gallipoli. It seems the unit landed on the beach some days after the initial landings. He was admitted to the Gallipoli Hospital on 10th of May 1915. Ern was returned to Australia on the 11th of May 1916 and discharged on the 24th of July 1916 as medically unfit. He received the 1914/15 Star.
Ern married Eileen Maude Lee on the 4th of December 1918. She passed away on the 10th of April 1969.
Ern worked for The Mail Newspapers Limited in Adelaide. His profession was listed as clerk and on his Death Notice as Assistant Secretary.
Ern and Teenie Aubrey Parham met at the Resthaven Retirement Village in Marion, South Australia. They were married in 1983.
Ern died of natural causes on the 14th of November 1985 at Resthaven, Marion South Australia.
