Served and suffered during The Great War, resting at Sandgate Cemetery.

60 years ago today, on the 15th July 1963, Private David Paton, 55th Battalion (Reg No-1211), miner from Dibbs Street, Adamstown, New South Wales and "Karoola", Eighth Street, Adamstown, N.S.W. (1932), was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 67. ANGLICAN 1-26. 139.

Born at Adamstown, New South Wales on the 9th January 1896 to David and Barbara Paton; husband of Harriett Paton nee Luxford (married 1919, New Lambton, N.S.W., died 23.4.1932, age 34, sleeping here), David enlisted on the 7th January 1916 with the 35th Battalion at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A24 Benalla on the 1st May 1916.

Admitted to hospital 1.4.1918 (myalgia, rheumatism).
Wounded in action 23.9.1917 (GSW head, face and back, severe), 2.9.1918 (GSW left arm, fractured humerus).

David was invalided home on the 31st January 1919, being discharged medically unfit on the 16th August 1919.

Mr. Paton’s name has been inscribed on the Adamstown Citizens' Memorial, Adamstown Municipal District Roll of Honor, Adamstown Methodist Church Honour Roll, as D. PATTEN and the Adamstown Independent Order of Rechabites, Hope of Adamstown Tent No. 76 Honour Roll.

I have placed poppies at David’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
