Flight Sergeant David Charles Tait 425377 drowned when Walrus HD865 of Number 8 Communications Unit based on Goodenough Island had an accident during take-off and sank near Salamo on Ferguson Island, New Guinea

All of the crew escaped the wreck, but Tait was unable to keep afloat until rescued

His body was not recovered and he is commemorated on the Port Moresby Memorial
