Richard William Tellam enlisted in the Australian Army on 27/1/1942, at 18 years and 10 months of age.
He served in Merauke, New Guinea and Bougainville with the 31st and 31st/51st Battalions.
Immediately after the war ended on 2/9/1945, Richard was assigned roles helping to take the surrender of the enemy and securing enemy-held territory and infrastructure on Ocean Island, Naru and Rabaul. He was discharged from the army on 21/6/1946.
