Private Evelyn Mary Thornton (Service No:QF266062) enlisted in the Australian Women's Army Service (AWAS) on 2 November 1942 with 1 AWAS Training Battalion, and in 1944 was attached to 38 Australian Heavy Anti Aircraft Battery - classified Instrument Operator. Private Thornton was attached to 10 Australian Anti Aircraft Operations Room at Discharge on 8 June 1945.

Evelyn was born in Warwick, QLD in 1919, youngest of seven children of Nicholas Joseph Thornton (b1872 in Warwick, QLD) and Mary Louise Love (b1878 in Townsville, QLD). Nicholas and Mary married in 1900 in Millmerran on the Darling Downs, and lived in the Warwick district -  at Swan Creek and Rosenthal Station - where Nicholas was a Dairyman. By 1909 the family was at Allora on the Darling Downs, where Nicholas was a Farmer. In the 1930s the family settled at Rocky Creek via Millerman on the Darling Downs, where Nicholas was a Farmer.

Evelyn was working in Toowoomba as a Waitress in 1942 when she enlisted in the Army, and in 1947 in Toowoomba married Archibald (Archie) Bruce Glasse (b1908 in Casino, New South Wales) - Archie had served in the ACMF in WWII (Service No:Q225676), and lived in Toowoomba prior to enlisting. Evelyn and Archie settled in Toowoomba, where they raised their family and Archie was an Electrical Fitter. Evelyn died in 1974 and Archie in 1983.
