John Thomas Hatton
JOHN THOMAS HATTON (1898-1919) born at Yass, son of Allan Albert and Margaret Ann Hatton nee Lanham. John enlisted in the 1st AIF on December 1st, 1915 in the 18th Infantry at Jerrawa. He served as Private 1664 in the 55th Infantry Battalion, 2-5 Reinforcements, Australian Field Artillery. The battalion sailed for Europe on the HMAT A40 Ceramic from Sydney on April 14th, 1916. His rate of pay was 5/- a day. He was listed for return to Australia January 14th, 1917 after being wounded during the fierce battles in France. He arrived back in Australia on board the Kanowna after being discharged from the 1st Auxiliary Hospital – medically unfit.. He died at Yass shortly after his return home from the effects of wounds he had received in France. A plaque was erected on his grave by other returned men from Yass.
