Kenneth Harry latter was born on 3rd September 1888 in Adelaide. Before the outbreak of the first World War, he worked as a Blacksmith and he was single at the time of his enlistment
On 17th October 1914, at the age 26, Latter enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (AIF). He initially joined the 11th Reinforcement for the 6th battalion, Australia infantry, AIF, and later transferred to the 9th Light Horse Regiment. In December 1915 Latter became ill with Dysentery and was hospitalised in Heliopolis. He recovered and returned to his unit. Again he became ill with Debility in November 1916 and was sent to the No. 14 Australian General Hospital in Cairo. He was assessed as medically unfit to continue serving and was repatriated home on HT Willochra in May 1917. He was formally discharged 7 September 1917 after 2 years and 326 days service.
Kenneth Latter died 25 March 1958 and is buried at Centennial Park Cemetery. Today, he is commemorated on the Mannum District Roll of Honor and the Riverton Holy Trinity Anglican Church Honour Roll. This tribute reflects the respect and recognition granted to soldiers who gave their service during one of the most difficult times in history.
