Son of Robert Stewart Varcoe and Madeline Isabella Rebecca Varcoe of Byng Street, Orange, NSW formerly of Hillston, NSW.

Brother of Albert Edward Varcoe who was killed in action on 19 May 1915 while serving with the 3rd Battalion and is buried in the 4th Battalion Parade Ground Cemetery, Row A, Grave 4 and Victor Varcoe who returned to Australia on 3 October 1919 having served with the Australian Flying Corp.
