Private Edward Walk (Service No:QX32081) enlisted in the AIF on 5 May 1942 with 29 Training Battalion, and was attached to 11 Field Ambulance on 18 May 1943 when he embarked with his Unit from Townsville for Port Moresby on board the Duntroon. Private Walk was stationed in New Guinea until 24 December 1943, when he embarked for Cairns on board the Canberra. Private Walk served in Madang, Bougainville and Torokina (14 August 1944 - 18 November 1945), and was attached to 11 Field Ambulance at Discharge on 7 December 1945.
Eighth of ten children, Edward was born in Bundaberg, QLD in 1906 to Johann (John Henry) Heinrich Walk (b1849 in Louenburg, Germany) and his second wife, Martha Hedwig Sontag (b1868 in Retkewity, Germany). John had immigrated in 1879, arriving in Brisbane QLD with his wife and children on board the Arthurstone, and settling in Bundaberg, where they were some of the original pioneers at Woongarra via Bundaberg. John was a Widower with six children in 1890 when he and Martha married in Bundaberg. They settled at Morocco Farm in Barolin via Bundaberg, where they raised their family and John was a Farmer.
Edward was a Labourer in Bundaberg, and in 1930 married Violet Cecilia Kreis (b1909 in Mondure, QLD). Edward and Violet settled in Bundaberg, where they raised their family and Edward was a Labourer. Edward died in 1987 and Violet in 1990.
