Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Second of three brothers (Les and Wally) who served in WWII, Sapper Eric Walk (Service No:Q76853) served in the ACMF (27 August 1940 - 6 January 1943) with 5 Field Coy and 55 Field Coy Field Engineers. Older brother Les was KiA in New Guinea in December 1942.

Eric was born in Bundaberg, QLD in 1918, third of four children (sons) of August Charles Walk (b1891 in Bundaberg, QLD) and Fanny Agnes Garland (b1880 in London, England) - Fanny, a Teacher (French and Piano) and a Dressmaker in London, immigrated in 1912, arriving in Townsville on board the Roscommon. August (a Labourer) and Fanny (a Domestic Servant) were both living in Cloncurry when they married in 1914. The couple settled in the Bundaberg region (Bell's Farm, Bonna at Branyan via Bundaberg, and Gooburrum at Musgrave via Bundaberg), where they raised their family - August was a Farmer (Sugar Cane and Dairy) and a Milk Vendor. During WWII, August was in Brisbane (Hut 1C Housing Area, Gregory Terrace) where he worked as a Carpenter, and in the 1950s as a Watchman.

Eric worked at Gooburrum via Bundaberg as a Labourer/Cane Cutter before enlisting in the Army, returning following his Discharge in 1943 to work on the farm (Reserved Occupation). In 1945 in Bundaberg he married Iris May Askew (b1926 in Bundaberg, QLD) - a Dressmaker before enlisting, Iris served in the WAAAF (Aircraftwoman; Service No:102152). Eric and Iris lived in Elliot before settling at Booyan in Moorland via Bundaberg, where they raised their family and Eric was a Farmer. Eric died in 2014 and Iris in 2015.
