Lieutenant Donald Frank Walker (Service Nos:QX50533/Q142711) served in the AIF between 1942 and 1946. He had served in the RAAF (Leading Aircraftman: Service No:404729) in 1940/1941. Lieutenant Walker served with 5 Docks Operational Coy in Darwin (25 December 1943 - 4 April 1944) and New Guinea (Morotai: 24 March 1945 - 26 December 1945). In January 1946 Lieutenant Walker (as an Officer) was placed on the Reserve List until 1959 when he was placed on the Retired List (National Archives Australia).
Born in 1913 in Ipswich QLD, Don was the sixth of eight children of John Fulton Walker (b1873 in Rosewood on the Darling Downs, QLD) and Ellen Hudson (b1880 in Ipswich, QLD). John (a Coal Miner) and Ellen married in 1900 in Ipswich, QLD where they settled and raised their family. By 1915 John was a Colliery Proprietor at Belgin's Hill in Bundamba, Ipswich QLD.
Don attended Ipswich Boys' Grammar School and completed a mining course at Ipswich Technical College. He was Manager of the Aberdare Colliery, and in 1946 married Rosanna (Rose) Laviah Price (b1919 in Ipswich, QLD). Don and Rose settled in Ipswich QLD where Don was a Colliery Manager. Don died in 1973 and Rose in 1998.
