Corporal Francis Norman Ward (Service No:QX26232) enlisted in the AIF on 29 December 1941 as a Private (classified Cook) attached to 7 Training Battalion. Promoted to Corporal on 18 September 1943, he served in Morotai and Ambon with 64 Infantry Battalion (22 May 1945 - 10 November 1945), and was attached to 64 Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 14 December 1945.
Francis was born in Brisbane, QLD in 1922, eldest of three children of Norman Ward (b1895 in Brisbane, QLD) and Jane Elizabeth Martin (b1897 in Brisbane, QLD). Norman and Jane married in 1922 in Brisbane, where they settled and raised their family and Norman was a Hairdresser, Barber and Labourer. Norman served in WWI (Private; Service No:6881) and WWII (Private; Service No:Q303712).
Francis was working in Brisbane as an Assembler - Galvaniser in 1941 when he enlisted in the Army, and in 1943 in Brisbane married Lily Jane Beeby (b1922 in Brisbane, QLD) - Lily worked as a Shop Assistant in Brisbane. Francis and Lily settled in Brisbane, where they raised their family and Francis worked as a Metal Polisher. Francis and Lily divorced in the early 1960s, and following retirement Francis moved to Beenleigh where he died in 1995. Lily remarried and died in 2005.
