Biography contributed by David Barlow

As part of the Merauke Regiment the 62nd Battalion left Thursday Island and sailed to Merauke in Dutch New Guinea in January 1943 where they secured the airstrip and port. They also patrolled along the coast and surrounding area and were used for working parties, building defences and unloading ships.
