Ned and his brother John with their friend Norman Henry were members of the 58th Field Park Co., were cattle drovers from the Gulf Country of Far North Queensland. Ned wapreviously with the 2/1 Railway construction. There job was to bulldoze out a "flying jeep" strip for spotting planes.
