Charles fought in the Sudan conflict from 1884-1885 and again in the Boer War in South Africa from 1899 -1902. Service number 1134. His rank was Gunner and he was in the Artillery unit first for the Colonial Military Forces then later for Royal Australian Artillery.

ABDY.—In loving memory of my dear father, Charles John Abdy, aged 64 years, who departed this life May 21,1918. Inserted by his loving daughter  Bertha.
