After returning from the war Frederick (Fred) Achilles returned to the Toowoomba region and married Eliza Simpson on 17 Apr 1903 and they went on to have several children. In 1941 while living in Oakey, he was working with a road crew for the Dept of Main Roads when he and two other were struck and killed by a utility truck. (source- Australian Boer War Memorial Database Bio by hi Grand Nephew; several newspaper reports of acident).
