When Henry James Adams enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his mother Mrs. C. R. Adams, Bitten Park, Southampton, England.

In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB, Bk 3 p. 136, it notes his war gratuity was paid out at Cape Town in South Africa. Report in the Brisbane Courier, 16 May 1902, records he was discharged in South Africa on 26 Mar 1902 to allow him to take up employment there. The Boer War Service Paybooks note in his contact details post discharge he was working as a Stock Collector with the Military Stock Department in Pretoria.
