Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

Charles Young Adamson was born on 18 Apr 1875 at Nevilles Cross, County Durham, England. He was a British Isles Rugby representative touring Australia in 1899 playing 20 matches and 4 tests as half back.

He remained in Brisbane, Australia on completion of the tour and disbandment of the team. A keen sportsman he joined the Valley Cricket Club in Brisbane prior to enlisting with the 4th Queensland Contingent for the South African (Boer) War. Its unclear when, but he returned to England prior to WW1.

He served in both the South African (Boer) War and WW1. First service was as a Private rising to Quarter-Master Sergeant S.N. 273 in the 4th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, Boer War. Second service was in the British Army as Quarter-Master Captain in the Royal Scots Fusiliers, WW1. During his WW1 service he was killed in action at Salonika, Greece on 17 Sep 1918.
