Robert Anderson served twice in the South African (Boer War). First service was as a Private (rising in rank to Corporal then Sergeant) S.N. 275 in the 3rd Queensland Mounted Infantry. He remained in South Africa when the 3rd QMI embarked to return to Australia for his second service joining the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen in South Africa as a Lieutenant (Supernumerary).
