Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

When Frank Ayerst Armstrong enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as Mrs. Armstrong, George's Road, Newcastle-on-Tyne, England.

Frank Ayerst Armstrong was born about 1877 in England, a son to Frederick Armstrong and Emma Armstrong (nee Ayerst). He married Ellen Caroline Waters on 2 Jul 1910 in Queensland and they had 3 children.

Prior to enlisting he was living in the Ipswich area with newspaper reports noting he was a sportsman competing as a marksman in rifle shooting. It appears he again settled in the Ipswich area on his return from the war.
