When Arthur Leslie Ayscough enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as Major J. W. Ayscough, Petrie Terrace, Brisbane. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB Bk 1, p. 30, it notes he directed part of his pay to his father Mr. J. W. Ayscough, Petrie Terrace, Brisbane.
Arthur Leslie Ayscough was born on 25 Apr 1880 in Brisbane, a son to Major James William Ayscough and Catherine Ayscough (nee Lowe). It appears he qualified as a chemist and was practising in Winton in 1907. By 1931 he was living in Melbourne where he authored a childrens book and was operating a chemist shop at Brunswick and living at Carlton.
