Biography contributed by Ryan Baskerville

Frederick William Baskerville was born in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England in 1876 to parents Frederick and Maria Baskerville. He was raised in an agricultural family, but the economic hardships of the late Victorian era forced him to seek new beginnings overseas.

In 1897, he set off for Australia, enticed by the promise of land and a fresh start in farming. Life in the Australian bush was difficult but rewarding. He became a skilled horseman, learning to navigate the vast distances and harsh terrains. These skills would prove invaluable when the world was plunged into the chaos of World War I.

Frederick, like many men from rural Australia, answered the call to serve. He joined the Light Horse Regiments and it was his mastery on horseback that resulted in a place among these soldiers. He fought with bravery and resilience, enduring hardship and sacrifice far from the fields he once called home.

In 1912, Frederick married Ruby Elizabeth Maud Baskerville in Quirindi, New South Wales, Australia. They had seven children together: Margaret, Lilian Madeline, Ernest Frederick, Ruby Elizabeth Maud, Ruby, William Leslie, and Joan. He also had one son from another relationship.

Frederick died on May 21, 1930, in Enfield, New South Wales, Australia at the age of 54. He was buried in Rookwood, Cumberland Council, New South Wales, Australia.
