Sidney Stuart Beatty was born on 3 Aug 1877 in Queensland, a son to Theophilus Stuart Beatty and Eliza Helen Beatty (nee Evans). His father was reported to have been a squatter who was the holder of Collaroy Station at St Lawrence, Queensland, when he served in the South African (Boer) War. He married Amelia Carmen Smith on 23 Aug 1905 and they had 3 children.
