Biography contributed by Kevin Pinel
My mother's recollection of her grandfather
Frank was a train driver and they moved every couple of years. Mum got sick of changing schools.
Frank died at 21 Paterson St middle of '37. I know they were living there in an established milk bar when my parents (Parlane Colquhoun and Vonda Best) married in March 1927. Mum & Dad started their married life with mum running the Victoria tea rooms in Elizabeth st. Frank made the ice cream for both buisnesses. People from all over Launceston came for the ice cream & a piece of my Nanna's sponge cake. Dad had a job with the city council. It was the depression so they decided to hold off having kids for a while. I think George St, where they lived until the end of the '70s) was built in '35/36. They were living there in 1937 when Frank died.
**Notes from my research**
Frank left the railways in 1920's and purchased an established milkbar at 21 Patterson St, which was up Trustees Ct. The family lived upstairs and the business was downstairs, which wasn't unusual in the day.
The building still stands and is still a shop of some sort.
