Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

When Thomas Bleakley enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his brother George Bleakley, Enniskillen, County of Fermanagh, Ireland. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB, Bk 2 p. 105, it is noted he directed part of his pay to Mrs. H. Newman, Rockhampton Rd, Mount Morgan.

It appears he was living at Mount Morgan when he enlisted and returned there to live following his discharge from the war. He was an active member of the Mount Morgan Rifle Club and other clubs up until he passed there in 1915.

Funeral Notice- Morning Bulletin, 14 Jul 1915, p. 1.

The Funeral of the late Mr. Thomas Bleakley will move from Mr. George Newman's residence, Rockhampton road, THIS (Wednesday) AFTERNOON, at 3.30 o'clock for the Mount Morgan Cemetery. T.T. Cornes, Undertaker, Morgan street, Mount Morgan.

It appears Thomas Bleakley was born in Ireland with BDM Qld online registers recording his death only where it is noted he was the son of John Bleakley.
