Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

In a letter from the Australian High Commissioner in Canada dated 29 Feb 1956 to the Dept. External Affairs, Canberra, enquries were made about the eligilibity of John Robert Bolam for a pension based on his service in the 4th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, Boer War. Its unclear when he moved to Canada, at the time of the letter he was retired and in Penticton General Hospital in a 'chronic' condition.

In colating a response to the High Commissioner, CARO noted that he was born on 21 Feb 1867 at Northumberland, England and that he served the full tour of the 4th QIB. Its unclear when he moved to Queensland but at the time of his enlistment in 1900 his N.O.K. was his sister at Berwick on Tweed England. The informant (no relation) for his 1956 death certificate in Canada noted that his father was Robert George Bolam and mother Mary Bolam and he was single.
