Boer War
Veteran Retires
After 37 years of service in the Military Forces, Mr. A. J. Bollard, retired yesterday from the office of Chief Clerk of the Military Headquarters, Francis-street. He was originally a member of the New South Wales Mounted Rifles and was one of the contingent sent from that regiment to Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee celebrations in England in 1897.
He served through the South African campaign with the 1st New South Wales contingent and on his return to Australia was appointed to the Perma nent Military Forces in New South Wales as Staff Sergeant-Major.
In 1911 Mr. Bollard was transferred to Western Australia in 1913 he was appointed lo the clerical staff at Fran Novmber cis-street Headquarters. After serving in the various branches he was appointed Chief Clerk in 1021. Mr. Bollard's successor will be Mr. C. Taylor, who will start the duties of Chief Clerk today. - The Daily News Perth, Thursday 18th November 1937 page 17
