When Albert Ernest Brook enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his father Mr. S. Brook, West End. The Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB, Bk 2 p. 20, held by Qld State Archives notes he directed part of his pay to his mother Mrs. M. A. Brook, West End.

Albert Ernest Brook was born on 24 May 1880 at Beaudesert, Queensland, a son to Seth Brook and Mary Ann Brook (nee Moore). He married Kathleen Brown on 4 Nov 1903 and they had 7 children. At the time of his passing he was a Dairyman and they were residing at Virginia, Brisbane.
